SUPPORT EARLY - CAREER EDUCATORS
Retaining quality teachers is an issue worldwide. Currently the U.S. rate of teachers leaving the profession is 10% the first years, 50% by year three, and 70% by year five. Other countries are experiencing similar challenges.
The program encourages members and chapters to be creative in support of early-career educators, those with up to 5 years' experience. Each chapter keeps a record of both the hours and money spent in member support. This can include not only first year teachers but educators who are in new positions. In 2013, our sisters in Delta State provided over 3000 hours of volunteer support and monetary support of $5017.26.

PROMOTE SCHOOLS FOR AFRICA
Through the Schools for Africa project nearly five million African children will gain access to quality basic education. This project focuses on girls, orphans and vulnerable children. Currently, we are working with 13 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. DKG's partnership with UNICEF will train more than 100,000 teachers and build or rehabilitate approximately 1,000 schools. This program provides preschools, teacher training, restrooms, fresh water, school supplies, food, and much more. Some of the children in Africa would not have received an education without the help from SFA. Since 2010, DKG has donated $120,665. Alpha Tau collects money at each meeting for African schools by each member giving all the spare change in her purse. We call this DKG--Donate to Kids in Ghana!

DONATE TO VARIOUS SUPPORTING FUNDS
One of the most important funds we donate to is the Emergency Fund which offers assistance to members who sustain major losses from floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and others natural disasters. But other funds are the Educators Award, the Holden Leadership Fund, The Golden Gift Fund, the International Speakers Fund, the Loretta Halek Fund, and, of course, Scholarships.

IMPACT LAW AND POLICY
We impact educational law and policy by sharing member expertise with lawmakers and other officials who influence education. Our state and international organizations are very influential in this area. A publication called U. S. Forum is sent out to all DKG Members to keep us aware of new legislation and how we can be influential.

EMPOWER WOMEN
Women make an enormous impact on education. Members must develop pride and recognize their ability to impact education, so we strive to increase members' personal and professional pride. An emphasis on leadership development and life-long learning that includes arts and music empowers women to impact communities around the world. To this end, state DKG organizations presented scholarships totaling $358,544 to 777 active members in 2015-2016. As of spring 2018, Missouri has given out 81 scholarships and grants-in-aid totaling over $210,000.

INCREASE GLOBAL AWARENESS
With quality programs and projects, members recognize similarities and differences in culture and education. As a non-governmental organization since 1995, DKG is involved at the United Nations with seven member representatives through affiliation with its Department of Public Information. DKG has partnered with UNICEF to support education in developing countries, and also has representatives on CTAUN (Committee for Teaching about the United Nations) to promote awareness of the U.N.

WORLD FELLOWSHIP DONATION
We yearly donate money at our February meeting to the Delta Kappa Gamma World Fellowship Fund. This fund provides opportunities for non-member women seeking masters or doctorates planning to return to their country to make a difference in our world to study in colleges and universities outside their native countries. It began at the 1946 DKG Convention in San Francisco to aid women in war-torn countries. From an initial award of $2500 in 1960, based on $11,528 in contributions, over $3,733,100 has been given out to 941 women in 122 countries to pursue advanced study. Alpha Tau usually donates around $40 yearly.

PROJECT HONOR
We try to honor our early career educators by inviting a first or second year teacher to be our guest at the April meeting. (Member is responsible to pay the cost of the meal.) In this way we also try to grow our membership by seeing if this teacher might want to join our society.

PROJECT HOPE
Each meeting members bring some type of selected supplies to donate to education or other needs. One year we donated books to schools devastated by tornados. One year books were given to public libraries, and one biennium books were given to early-career educators. Hygiene items have also been given to shelters for women, or school supplies have been donated to schools devastated by hurricanes or other natural disasters.
